66 Day Challenge

Hey guys! With 2019 right on our heels I decided to take the initiative and get a head start on setting and achieving new goals! Recently, due to some health issues I’ve had to make some very abrupt lifestyle changes such as changing my eating habits, my physical activity, EVERYTHING! It’s been a tough journey but, I’m in it for the long haul.

While browsing YouTube like I alway do I came across a video posted by Lady Like of Buzzfeed that mentioned you could form new habits in 21 days. That’s it. Just TWENTY-ONE DAYS?! Sounds awesome right? Well, since I was SO inspired by this video to start my own challenge that I began to do a little research on my own and with a little push from those around me I have created (or joined in) this challenge I call the 66 day challenge.

One might ask, “Tune, why did you say 66 days when you mentioned the Buzzfeed video said only 21?” I’m so glad you asked because, according to cosmetic surgeon Maxwell Maltz who, popularized this specific amount of time during the 1960’s without actually ever conducting tests to be sure. Back in 2009, a research team from University College London conducted several trials of this 21 day new habit formula and uncovered an average time of how long it takes to form new habits. According to their results, it does not however, take 21 days to form new habits instead it takes about an average of 66 days to create a new habit.

So, according to science you’d need at least three weeks before new habits become automatic to a person. After doing more research and compiling a list of things I’d like to incorporate as daily habits I narrowed my list down to three things. My three things I want to become daily habits are: 1. Drink more water (1-3 YETI cups), 2. Be physical AT LEAST 3X a week, and finally, 3. Keep a working schedule.

With any challenge, I thought I’d give myself a simple set of rules to follow while doing this challenge so there would be no grey areas. My simple rules for this challenge are:

1. Stay Positive. This is gonna be probably the HARDEST thing I have conquered this year but, if I can complete this challenge then I can conquer my fear of change and wanting to quit tasks when they’re too hard for me.

2. Record Everything. By recording everything either in a journal or logging it in my phone I’m making myself responsible to track my progress; good or bad.

3. NO SHORTCUTS. Yes, it’ll be hard. Yes, it’ll suck not to have my favorite soft drink or food. But, I have to remain strong-willed and soldier on to the finish line.

Now that I’ve laid out the research, the amount of days the challenge will go for it’s time to prepare for the next 66 days!

Life Update #1

Hey y’all! It’s your friendly neighborhood friend: ME! I’m back, yes again. I know, I can’t stick to a set schedule and it sucks. But I’m gonna try really hard this time to put more focus on my blog and working on myself. I have a LOT of different things planned not only for the blog but how I’m gonna spend my summer. One more thing to note: IT’S SUMMER!! So say hello to sun, sand, and rain. Yep, it’s has rained so much in Kentucky!

So, while we’re chatting let me fill you in on some things that have been going on starting from January:

In January, I quit my dream job of being a preschool teacher due to health concerns and bad business practices. Also during this time I was recovering from a terrible cold and made the snap judgment to return my fast food job from high school (I know I know 🙄) that was a fail! January wasn’t too kind to me and I found myself asking why me? I thought things couldn’t possible get worse.

In February, my long time boyfriend came to visit my old Kentucky home and it honestly warmed my heart. It felt amazing to spend time with someone when I was going through so much work wise. During this month I also struggled with the decision to return to college for my bachelors. It’s a decision I STILL struggle with and I honestly don’t know what I wanna do even as I write this.

In March, things started to look up! I started my own nanny business and I currently have one family as a client! I’m so excited to work hard and grow my business. It’s been tough, especially when dealing with my local state department and following up on various paperwork and whatnot.

In April, I was flustered and drained. I hadn’t quiet figured out this school situation and I had to quickly look for a second job to maintain my lifestyle and business. April was the month I was really doubting myself and I wanted to give up.

In May, I got another visit for my honey and we made it official: WE’RE MOVING IN TOGETHER! I can’t wait to start this journey with him and I was elated when he told me his plans! May was a whirlwind of events, I started my second job working retail and it’s honestly an eye-opener.

Well, that’s all for now, let’s hope the rest of the summers months are as good to me as well.

Wanna share your life update(s)? Go-ahead in the comments!

April Ipsy Glam Bag

I can’t believe it’s that time again! It is a new month and one that brings the aura of change and rejuvenation. This months Ipsy blew me away! The first thing I want to talk about is the pouch, it’s covered in butterflies and is gives you that soft touch. I have to say this bag is my favorite bag so far and I can’t wait to see what I get next month!

This months theme was butterflies and it encouraged subscribers to be more social and float about like butterflies. As always if you are unfamiliar with Ipsy Glam Bags I’ll fill you in real quick. They are a subscription based program that for $10 a month they’ll send you a total of 5 full size or sample items.

Without much more waiting let’s dive into this months bag and see what we have!

The first item is the Firma Beauty 202 Angled blending brush.

My first impressions of this brush is that it’s very soft and I love how it’s angled which makes applying transition shades so much easier! I have to admit though, I haven’t used this brush very much because I have an abundance of makeup brushes that need to be rotated out!

Let me know if you guys want a tour of my vanity in the comment section.

The second thing I got in my glam bag this month was the Purlisse Beauty Coconut Oil + Coffee Sugar Body Scrub.

This smells AMAZING! I use it from time to time in the shower on my spa days and it leaves your skin so soft and supple! I am cautious about skincare products because I have sensitive skin but, so far I haven’t had any issues with this product.

On to the next item I got: OFRA Cosmetics blush in the shade Chameleon.

This so far has been a staple product in my beauty routine! I love the soft rosy pink this blush gives off, it really wakes up the face and is perfect if you want just a touch of makeup on the go. I love the natural rosiness it gives the cheeks making it a more subtle blush shade for me instead of bold. I definitely recommend this blush for the warmer months!

My second favorite item from this months bag is the Henpz Herbal Lip Balm.

I am a sucker for a good lip balm, I can’t lie. When I seen this I was so over joyed. First impression of this product is that it has a pleasant scent and it’s ultra moisturizing! Be careful though, a little goes a LOOONG way!

The last thing in my bag this month is the Aurora 24HR Lip Stain in the shade Salmon.

**This post is LATE and life got crazy. I PROMISE to post more consistently and get better.

March Ipsy Glam bag Review

I’m baaack! This time we’re gonna talk about the March Ipsy Glam bag. When I say I was so excited at the items I received this month, I really was! Okay, so let’s dive straight in shall we?

If you don’t know, Ipsy is a monthly makeup subscription that’ll send you five sample/ full size makeup products for $10. Each month has its own theme and the bags are personalized for the consumer.

This months’ theme was about expressing yourself and your creative skills. To showcase some of that, this month Ipsy rolled out their first ever, diy glam bag with markers allowing consumers to essentially design their bags however they wish (I’ll include my own completed glam bag here as well).

My bag this month was focused on skincare and I couldn’t be more happy. So, now that we’ve talked about the inside let’s go ahead and unpack this baby.

The first item I pulled out was the Twila True Beauty True Renewal Oil. This oil is versatile and can be used on any dry area you have. Think face, elbows, hair anything! I really liked that it’s scentless and was highly recommended for sensitive skin, which I have.

The second item I pulled out was the Labotica Transforming Liquid Foil Mask. This is a beautiful peel-off mask that gives you robotic vibes. This mask brightens and firms the skin, cleanses pores as well as gently removes dry skin. It’s also great for those with sensitive skin.

The third thing in my bag was the Eyeko Lash Alert Mascara in the shade Carbon Black. This mascara is loaded with biotin to improve the overall health of your lashes as well as caffeine (what?!) to give you that bright eyes and alert look for those early mornings. I’m a big fan of the overall packaging of this mascara which allows you to get every bit of product.

Up next is the Herminerals Blending Sponge. This sponge is highly recommended for reaching tough areas such under the eyes or the nose. This sponge helps one achieve a more natural, airbrushed effect.

The last thing from my glam bag this month is the Steven Laurant Beauty Lip Oil in Orchid. First impressions matter and boy, was I impressed. This beauty comes in a pink-ish golden holographic box and it is the prettiest packaging I’ve seen yet. This lip oil just like the renewal oil I mentioned earlier has multiple uses such as: wearing it alone or on top of your favorite lip color, applying it as a highlighter, taming flyaway hairs the possibilities are endless!

Well, that’s the end of my glam bag! Did you receive this months bag? If so, comment down below what you received!

February Ipsy Glam Bag

Love is in the air and I couldn’t be more happy.. that I got my February Ipsy Bag! (😜) I was SUPER excited about this months bag and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it and show you the goodies I got this month!

If you are unfamiliar with the company, Ipsy is a monthly subscription program that send you sample and full sized makeup products for $10 a month. Every month has its own theme and this months them was about being unzipped and letting your sexy shine through. (😏)

This month focused on showing that being sexy isn’t limited women (and men) not is it limited to size, shape, or age. They really focused on encouraging their consumers to embrace and showcase their version(s) of sexy.

First impressions are important and this did not disappoint.

“Isn’t she Pretty in Pink?” ❤️

This months bag I received:

•”Luna” by Luna Highlighter

•”Bye-Bye Under Eye Concealer” IT Cosmetics in the shade Warm Deep

Dia & Co. Clothing Review

Hey you guuuys! I’m back with another review! Recently, I have been browsing through the internet for subscriptions services to try out because, why not? I came upon this clothing company named Dia & Co.

Dia & Co. is a clothing subscription company that caters to woman from sizes 14-32. When I seen that, I instantly had to try it out. Basically, you register an account on their website (Dia.com). After you register, you complete a short survey about your likes/ dislikes, as well as your clothing sizes. After you complete this step, you can decided whether you receive your box every two weeks, every month, or every other month.

The best part? It’s $20! Not only is it just $20, when you purchase any of the items from your box you automatically have $20 credited toward your final price! Not only this, you can select your price range from “as low as you can go” to “expensive”.

With all that being said let’s get down to the review. As always, I’ll include a picture of the product, the retail price, and rate the product.

Product #1: Celebes Long Bauble Necklace; Gold / Turquoise.

This item retails for $28.00, its a beautiful necklace and compliments any outfit virtually. I really liked the color combination and it reminded me of Fall. I give this item two stars. I gave it 2 stars because, I’m not a big fan on necklaces due to my already being chesty. I did NOT keep this necklace and opted to send it back.

Product #2: New Castle Wrap Dress; Red; Pennington’s

This item retails for $75.00. When I pulled this little beauty out I was blown AWAY. This. Is. Perfect. I love the color as it is perfect for Valentines Day (which is coming up) and it allows me to show a little skin. (😏) A couple things about this dress, it’s very soft fabric! It was so soft, I couldn’t wait to slip into it. I loved how it fit my body! The con? The price (😩), even though I loved this dress and I’m giving it a 4 star rating. I did NOT keep it because it was out of my price range.

Product #3: Macie Short Sleeve Kimono; Black; Meri Skye

This item retails for $39.00. When I pulled this item out of my box, I was elated! I love cardigan type jackets and this one was beautiful from the patterns all the way to the feel of the fabric. All of the items I have unboxed thus far have felt like they were good, quality products. I gave this item a 5 star rating! This was one of my favorite items and I DID keep this piece. I’m so excited to pair it with some different things.

Product #4: Karlie Lattice Tee; Black; Molly&Isadora

This item retails for $45.00. I really liked the detail of this shirt, and I liked how it showed a little bit of cleavage. (😏) Once again, the shirt felt really soft and felt like it was made of quality material. I liked the color of the shirt and you can really never go wrong with a black shirt. I gave this shirt 3 stars mainly for its price. I felt $45 was a bit much for a basic black shirt and I feel I can find one similar to this for less.

Product #5: Chambers Skinny Jeans; Medium Wash; Molly&Isadora

This item retails for $65.00. When I say I almost cried! Being a larger girl, it is so H A R D to find jeans that fit me! I’m not too proud that in recent months I have become a proud member of the stretchy pants crew. These jeans changed that for me, when I tried them on they felt very comfy and snug. They hugged my frame almost like they were made just for me! I didn’t care about the cost of these jeans I knew that they had to be mine! I give these pants 5 stars. I’m not too upset on the price of these because, like I said, it is very hard for me to find jeans that are high quality and look good. I DID keep these jeans and I’m so happy!

All in all, I decided to keep two items from my box; the the shirt sleeve kimono and the skinny jeans. My total was around $84 and I couldn’t be more happier with my purchase(s).

Well, that’s what I got in my box what have you gotten in yours? Wanna see me review other products? Let me know in the comments!

How to Be Healthy in College

Every year, parents ship their children off to various college institutions all over the country. They send them off with all of the “necessities” one would need to survive in the “real world”. Everything but the most vital; coping skills and the ability to deal with the stress that comes with college. One of the things, I wished I would have received the most, when I first enrolled in college was for someone to tell me; “I am here for you, I care for you, you got this.”  This one phrase means both nothing and something to the majority of college students.

Going to college is a huge accomplishment and is nothing to be taken lightly. For lack of better words, it’s a culture shock; young adults are living separate lives apart from the watchful eyes of their families. No one is reminding you to complete assignments, to go to bed at a decent hour, making sure you made it to class on time, and lastly, staying on top of all of the never-ending pile of work you’ve been accumulating.

For someone who has never spent a decent amount of time away from their family, this can be a really difficult transition. According to American College Testing (ACT), one in every four college students leaves college before completing their sophomore year — and nearly half of all freshmen will either drop out before obtaining a degree or complete their college education elsewhere.

stressed college student

That’s a little scary and intimidating but, that’s not what this post is about. This post is meant to ENCOURAGE and EMPOWER anyone who should look upon it.

When I first enrolled in college I thought, COLLEGE! This’ll be a breeze! NEGATIVE! I struggled so much! I didn’t take the time to familiarize myself with my new found independence; I was a bull in a china shop and oh, did it show. I felt so lost and I felt like I needed a manual of sorts in order to just stay ‘above water’.

I have created a list of things if you will, that will help anyone who is struggling to remain healthy and sane in college.

students-sleep

SLEEP. I don’t care what you have heard, what you have read about college; you need to sleep. I get it, sometimes there are days where you don’t have time to sleep. You have due dates and tests to study for; but, if you’re running on no sleep you’re just setting yourself up for failure.

water WATER. There’s nothing wrong with having a drink (or two) but, you NEED water to survive. So many college students I have been in contact with have revealed that they mostly consume sugary energy drinks, sodas, and coffee. I can’t lie, I’ve maintained on several of these a time or two, just make sure you throw in water from time to time.

mother-comforting-her-sad-daughter

GET EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. I can’t stress this enough! Parents. Friends. Siblings. Coaches. Advisers. Let your student know that you are there for them! Sometimes just having a listening ear makes all the difference in the world. You don’t have to offer advice or give a solution just LISTEN. (If you are a education major, this would be a great time to tell your family and friends about ACTIVE LISTENING). Too often, are students holding in things that are causing them grief, give them an arena of release.

College Yoga 620

BE ACTIVE. Join clubs and/or associations that match your interests. One of my own regrets about my college experience was that I wasn’t more active. By being active, you are constantly on the go which encourages physical activity and that’s always good (or is it?). Just kidding, get out there and bloom flower!

the-best-nutritious-foods-in-the-world

NUTRITION. Did I say college is hectic? Even though, it’s tough sometimes you need to eat healthy. Try a couple of times a week, you don’t have to break the bank or use all of your meal swipes. Try buying fruit that has a long shelf life like apples, oranges, and bananas. Dry cereals, and instant oatmeal packets the possibilities are endless.calender

STAY ON TASK. You is kind, you is smart, you can pass that test! It’s so hard to become organized, especially if you’ve spent your earlier years with your backpack being a black-hole. Create a cork board to place your daily to-do’s, track the dates of tests and assignments. Or even buy a planner or log everything into your smartphone or laptop.

Welp, that’s all I have today folks! I hope this helps someone who is considering taking that leap into college life or even someone is curious. Thank you guys so much for reading and please check back for new posts! I will post every Wednesday and Friday.

XOXO,

Tune

Ipsy Glam Bag Review

When I tell you how excited I have been to use these products! I posted last week strictly on what I received, this week we’re going to dive in and I’m going to review the products that I received. As a woman of color it can be tough sometimes to find colors that show up on the skin. Well, this eyeshadow does the job and then some. For starters, this color is a rose gold in my opinion and I use it as a highlighter color as well. When I swatched this beauty let me tell you! I was in love (❤️)!

Luna Eyeshadow in the shade “Juliet”<<<<<<<<<
adow in the shade "Juliet"

Next up, we have the Ciaté London Eyeliner. I was really impressed with this product. I live my life on the go and I need to be able to go through my day without re-touching my eyeliner. This eyeliner stayed with me all through the day (8+ hours)! This eyeliner applies beautifully and dries to a matte finish. This is great for everyday wear and those special occasions.

I must admit, my favorite product out of this months Glam Bag has to be the Doucce Punk Volumizer Mascara. I'm still very much getting my 'feet wet' when it comes to makeup and I am not comfortable wearing false eyelashes. Actually, I'm terrible at applying them. I have a story on that if you guys are interested (let me know). Moving on, this mascara gave my lashes such lift and made them appear long and wispy!

The last thing I wanted to review from this months Glam Bag was the Vasari Eyeshadow contour brush (#4). The bristles on this brush are very soft, I loved that the most about this brush and I also loved how easily it blended the shadows together.

All in all, these products are things I will DEFINITELY be incorporating into my everyday routine! I am so please this with items and I can't wait to review more things from Ipsy for you guys!

Thanks for reading and check back on FRIDAY for my next post!

XOXO,

Hey Sistas

The Sistahood

Hello! My name is Roneshia and I am the creator of The Sistahood. Thanks for having a seat at my table. There’s plenty of Room. Stretch out. Make yourself comfortable. You’re in a safe space. There’s plenty of food (information). There’s plenty of love. This blog is very intentional. My husband suggested blogging to me several times, but the timing wasn’t right. Now, is the time. Women are finding their voices to speak out against many injustices. I stand with you. This blog is a dedicated space for my sistas. Sometimes, you just need your sistas, literally and figuratively. My grandmother used to say, “Women have to go through so much.” Isn’t that the truth? The expectations are HIGH for women and mothers. We’re expected to be perfect, pretty, well behaved, proper, respectable, compassionate, great cooks, caretakers, problem solvers and on and on and on. I’m here to say take a…
